The Cultivated Thread

Hilary is the maker behind The Cultivated Thread, a small-batch weaving studio in Midcoast Maine creating handwoven towels and home goods from natural fibers. She strives to source organic and U.S.-produced materials and designs each piece for everyday use, combining beauty, durability, and function.

After more than a decade in agriculture, Hilary launched The Cultivated Thread in 2020. Weaving had long been a creative and meditative part of her life, particularly during the quieter winter months, and eventually became the foundation for her next chapter.

Her handwoven towels are soft, absorbent, durable, and designed to withstand years of regular use. For Hilary, weaving is about creating functional art—beautiful, thoughtfully made pieces intended to become part of everyday life.
